As a textile and print artist my primary interest is in the layering and collaging of texture and colour to create my image. This is central to both my textile work (pictures, wall-hangings, jewellery, bowls and bags), and my prints.
My favourite themes are landscapes, seascapes and coastal views as well as a long held interest in myths and legends.
In my work I enjoy experimenting with different processes, effects and techniques, including print, dye, felt, paint, batik, collage, combining them using free machine embroidery into one compositional piece.
My recent textile work involves the use of an embellishing machine which allows you to combine fabrics and colours in a painterly way giving more scope to mix and fragment colour. This gives me an interesting background to further develop with stitch. Whilst I continue to design and develop techniques based on themes of interest to myself, I particularly enjoy working on commissioned pieces of "emotional baggage" designed exclusively for the client according to their needs. A bag, wall-hanging, picture or bowl can be commissioned to celebrate a wedding or special birthday, to commemorate a loved one, or as a family heirloom to record family members, events etc. to pass down through the years. Owning a piece of "emotional baggage" will be something truly unique, a talking point, a work of art possibly to use as well as look at.
